About
Max Carmichael is a talented multi-instrumentalist on flute, banjo, guitar, and bouzouki, based in Chatham, NY.
Max grew up in Red Bank, New Jersey. At the age of 11, he started to learn Blues guitar from local musicians Chuck Lambert and Gary Wright. He developed an interest in many different styles of music, teaching himself banjo and Irish flute among others. His curiosity also led him to Kolkata, India, where he studied Hindustani classical music on the 22-string slide guitar, or chatturangui, with Debashish Bhattacharya.
In the last decade, Max has become a sought-after accompanist in the East Coast traditional music scene. He performs and records with Cranston Dean, Irish group Curragh, NJ folk group Jackson Pines, and participates in Irish sessions around the Hudson Valley and beyond.
